Cheongsam as they are known now means 'long dress', but they were originally known as qipao. They initially appeared in the 17th century China throughout the Qing Empire in its fundamental form. The majority of cheongsam dresses are purchased on line from Internet stores and are usually made in China but sent worldwide. A cheongsam chinese dress made everywhere but China just would not be the same!
