An experiment in Wales suggests that alerting vulnerable people about poor air quality can worsen hospital admissions. The unexpected results were explained to the recent Welsh Air Quality Forum held in Llandrindod Wells. Swansea University led a team aiming to answer the question: “Does informing susceptible individuals of episodes of poor air quality enable them to better manage their health condition and result in reduced contact with the health care system?” Four GP practices took part in the experiment and nearly 1.400 patients with COPD, asthma or chronic heart disease in
