Like many men, I used to believe that waiting until the last minute was the right approach to Christmas shopping.
As I have grown older, I have learned that I enjoy the season more when I shop early. When I buy presents for
the ones I love at the beginning of the season, it accomplishes two things. First, it takes a bit of the stress away.
Second, it gives me longer to enjoy looking forward to the moment when the gift is actually given. The looking
forward, the expectation, the anticipation can be as much fun as is the gift giving itself. I spend my time thinking of
how I will present the gift. I imagine what the recipient’s face will look like when it is opened. I relish the joy of the
event before it has even happened.
There is a Greek word in the New Testament that I find fascinating, and it describes perfectly the season of Advent.
