A Quick Intro to Sprains
What is a Sprain?
A sprain comes about when a ligament is stretched beyond its limits.
Possibly based on the
French word ‘espraindre,’ meaning ‘squeeze’, a sprain commonly happens in the wrist as well
as the ankle, though other joints will also be vulnerable.
Athletes are particularly susceptible to
sprains.
You may over-extend yourself in a tennis game.
Or a runner slips without having a solid
foothold.
These are common cases.
Many individuals injure themselves starting a new fitness
routine too quickly, too.
Enthusiasm is nice, but one should still be careful.
Everyday activity
can be just as full of hazards.
Over-reaching to the top shelf or twisting an ankle heading down
some steps are equally as prone to cause a sprain.
The Joints
Sprains are a whole lot quicker to understand – and thus avoid – if we get acquainted with our
joints a little better.
The bones within the joints are held firm to one another by elastic
structures called ligaments.
