1 Plazas to the People Pavement to Parks Celebrates the Launch of Two New Pedestrian Spaces sustainable program that can respond to the huge demand for plazas and parklets. Since the first four pilot plazas were organized through Pavement to Parks in 2009 and 2010, the Program has carefully considered the lessons learned from those sites. Two of the most important elements for a successful demonstration pedestrian plaza are the need for a strong community steward and a solid calendar of activities to program the new space. At Persia Triangle and Annie Street we see all the best elements of trial demonstration plazas coming together. Persia Triangle has been called “The Heart of the Excelsior” by longtime residents and local organizations. Excelsior Action Group (EAG), the current plaza sponsor, has been working to improve the site for many years.
