Song: PAT-A-CAKE, PAT-A-CAKE
Introduction
Pancake Day, which is celebrated in the UK with fun, games, and of course a lot of eating,
is approaching.
This traditional nursery rhyme is one of the oldest and most widely known surviving
English nursery rhymes.
It is often accompanied by hand-clapping between two people (a
clapping game) but this time we are going to use the song to make Play Dough pancakes.
You will need:
• white Play Dough for the pancakes
• coloured Play Dough for the decoration
• pencils to score the letters
• one copy of Worksheet 1 for each child
• coloured crayons, pencils or markers
• access to the Internet (optional)
Instructions:
1.
Tell the children about the tradition of eating pancakes for Pancake Day/Shrove
Tuesday in the UK.
Explain they are going to make pancakes with Play Dough
while singing a song.
2.
Teach them the following actions:
