The Onteora Central School
District’s Board of Education
has adopted a $49,686,922 budget
that is $854,199 LESS THAN the
current budget and carries a
0 percent tax levy increase.
The
budget reductions were largely
achieved through the adoption
of a District reconfiguration
plan, which is designed to both
improve students’ learning and
experiences and reduce the cost
of operation.
Under the reconfiguration
plan, a total of 27.
5 instructional
and building support positions
are eliminated.
An additional
2 district office positions and
1 transportation position are also cut under the proposed budget.
Of the
reductions, 14 positions can be eliminated through retirements, allowing
the District to preserve the jobs of the newest staff members, who often are
on a significantly lower salary scale than their veteran colleagues, creating
additional budget savings.
