The way psychiatrists define many mental illnesses is being questioned.
For years there
was one way to define many different illnesses, but have doctors and psychiatrists been
completely wrong? Why are they questioning something they have used for years? Have we
over or under estimated the effects of illnesses? The manual that has been used for years and is
still used today is being rewritten.
The DSM-IV (published in 1994) is being revised and every
chapter within is being looked over and rewritten.
The proposal to revise the manual was first
discussed in 2007, so why is it not being published until May of 2013? This is a question that
may trouble people.
If issues were realized with the manual why are children being diagnosed
from that same manual?
Technology advancements have allowed a better understanding of mental illnesses.
Some doctors say that technology will continue changing the way they think
