Matt Cutts Promises to Level the SEO Playing Field
Matt Cutts, the head of Google’s anti-search engine spam department, recently
announced at South by Southwest (SXSW) that Google’s next algorithm update
will specifically target sites that over-do their SEO.
The announcement was made during a panel called “Dear Google & Bing: Help
Me Rank Better,” which was attended by both Google’s Cutts and Bing’s Duane
Forrester, as well as Danny Sullivan from Search Engine Land.
The upcoming algorithm update is just one of an increasingly long line of measures
designed to favor webmasters who publish good content on a well-designed
website versus those who concentrate solely on SEO.
These updates are expected
to roll out over the next several weeks.
Cutts claims that it will impact sites that are overly optimized for search engines.
