Steam Locomotive Preservation & Restoration
When these locomotives first came on the scene, some people thought steam
locomotives were the most efficient diesels when they were first put into service and
because they did not take too long to start.
The steam locomotives were inefficient and
that they took a long time to get started.
The main thing is that the old steam locomotive
took way too long and too much maintenance that is why the train industry turned to
dieselization and turned our eyes on the new era of diesels.
Although Steam Locomotive
were inefficient there is no doubt that the steam locomotive is a part of train and
transportation history and deserves to be a focus of preservation efforts.
The restoration costs would be the most expensive part of the restoration of a
locomotive.
For a typical cosmetical restoration it would run between 10,000 dollars to
hundreds of thousands of dollars depending on the current condit
