PUTIN, HE’S COMING BACK!
It was hardly unexpected; there was always a suspicion that Vladimir Putin would stand once again
as President of Russia once the Constitution allowed him to do so, and he announced his candidacy
for the Post in the 2012 Election at a dinner with foreign specialists on Russia in Moscow.
Putin sees himself as essentially indispensable
Four years ago, after two terms of Office, similar to the American system, a President stands down
but unlike in America, he can stand again four years later.
In the interim his former Prime Minister
Dmitry Medvedev has been President although no one has been totally sure who has welded the
power.
Certainly Medvedev, Prime Minister under Putin, was never seen playing the prominent role
that Putin has played in the last four years when the roles have been reversed.
In his statement Putin denied this was a pursuit of personal power; he clearly feels he is the best
man for the job with still so many social issues to resolve in Rus
