Asparagus - Should you only buy local and in season?
It’s a sin I know but…
I’ve just bought some asparagus: Nothing criminal in that specific activity you may think but this is
November and as far as the calendar is concerned, we are at a polar opposite to the asparagus
season here in the UK.
Once again, what’s the problem? Well as far as I’m concerned there isn’t one but the more food
related television programmes I watch, the more I’m convinced that I’ve just committed a Cardinal
sin and I should be hung, drawn and quartered before my head is placed on a pike outside the
headquarters of the NFU.
I love asparagus and I wholeheartedly agree that it is at its finest when I buy British during the
natural UK season.
Living on the cusp of asparagus country at the edge of East Anglia, the month of
May involves regular trips to Suffolk farms to buy it straight from the source.
You just can’t get better but if the vegetable police had their way, I would stop eating asparagus as
