the UK versions in the shops and maybe, try growing your own.
When Clarissa Dickson Wright was asked to contribute to the second series of the Great British Food
Revival, she claimed to have approached the BBC with a request to feature garlic in the programme,
only to be told that garlic isn’t British.
While you could argue that the BBC should know better, this is a common misconception and when
you consider that British soil provides perfect conditions for garlic growing as a whole, it’s a shame
that British garlic isn’t more widely available.
The BBC’s assertion backs up a commonly held belief that as garlic is associated with continental
cuisine, the bulb itself must be exclusively grown on overseas shores.
