Main Building of Tartu University
The main building of Tartu University is one of the most outstanding examples of
classical architecture in Estonia.
The main building was built in 1804-1809 according
to university architect Johann Wilhelm Krause’s plans.
The Botanical Garden of the University of Tartu
One of the oldest of the 2,400 botanical gardens in the world, designed under the
direction of world famous botany professors Ledebour, Bunge and others.
More than
6,500 plant species representing all of the Earth’s climatic zones grow here, which is
why this garden is the most species-dense in all of Estonia.
