MARK MAKING MATTERS
LEARNING THROUGH LANDSCAPES – 01962 845811
Why does mark-making matter?
Mark-making is one of the many ways that we
make contact and share information with those
around us.
Our environment is filled with print
and symbols in many forms and for a variety
of purposes; signs on roads and shops, written
instructions, recipes and menus, labelled displays
and product packaging.
From an early age
babies and young children are aware
that these marks have meaning.
As they grow and develop they learn to
interpret and respond to the messages
that are being conveyed and begin their
own attempts at communicating through
marks and symbols.
