a second 18-hole course at
their club and hired George
Fazio for the design.
Fazio
lived in Philadelphia and had
ongoing projects all over the
country.
He needed a point
man on site at Champions for
the new course construction.
Demaret recommended
Riviere, who was someone
the three-time Masters champion could trust.
Fazio hired Riviere to
oversee the Jackrabbit Course
at Champions, and Riviere
immediately fell in love with
the work.
“So Jay accidentally got
into the golf course architecture business and spent the
next 40 years in it,” Bernie
Riviere said.
“He never took
architecture in school.
He
never studied landscaping or
anything.
He just had a feel
for design, and when he got
