Standards must be followed when hauling subduct or fibre.
For instance, when pulling
cables, the cable drums should be held on horizontal shafts then turned by either
mechanically or manually turning the drums so that the cable can be fed out of the drums.
Under no circumstances should the cables be chipped off the drums.
Precautions should be taken when working with optic fibre.
There should be no bending or
crushing outside of the limits of the manufacturers’ specifications.
If this is not adhered to,
it will generate irreversible damage to the fibres.
Hauling eyes must be fitted to optic fibre cables.
When hauling the cable, a minimum twist
draw rope must be fitted to a hauling eye by means of a custom fit swivel.
It is not
permitted to connect by any other method.
It is important that contractors who install cables have the necessary information regarding
the correct polywater lubricant for the job.
