Mayor Says Resignation Effective November 1
Hampton Mayor Phil Swofford contacted the South Arkansas
Sun on Wednesday stating that his
“resignationiseffectiveNovember1.
”
“I said you would be the first
one I’d call.
I see no way to accomplish the things I set out to do,”
Swofford said, adding “Until they get
a leader up there that everybody gets
behind, it isn’t going to work.
”
Council Meeting
Swofford had cleaned out his
desk, left his credit card, cell phone
and keys on his desk and sent word
via Water Supervisor Odell Nash that
he resigned.
Judy Southall made the announcement to the council members
at the beginning of their monthly
meeting Monday afternoon.
With
the mayor’s absence, she is actingmayor.
Jamal Flynt was sworn in the
seat vacated by Councilwoman Ann
Broach at last month’s meeting.
