The Overland Park Planning and Development Services
Department is pursuing a new type of zoning tool to shape
redevelopment along Metcalf from I-35 to 123rd Street.
Instead of relying on traditional zoning districts that specify
and limit an area to a particular use such as residential,
commercial or o ce, the “form-based code” would de ne
the character or form of the place and allow uses to be
mixed.
“Great places don’t necessarily change over time,
but their uses can and do” said Jason Beske, a senior
planner with Overland Park, who is leading the e ort on
this new approach.
The Overland Park City Council and Planning Commission
received an overview in September of form based code for
Snow plows ready to go.
