If astronomers discovered a near-earth asteroid on a collision trajectory with our planet by 2100, NASA engineers and international space agencies would initiate immediate efforts to begin nudging it away from its obliterating collision trajectory. It turns out that the U.N.'s most recent world population projections (03 May 2011) include two collision trajectories that could well be equally dangerous, and especially its "high-fertility" projections of 15.8 billion by century's end.
