In three weeks’ time Leeds
and the rest of the country
will make a decision that
could change our voting
system.
On May 5, as well as voting
in local council elections, the
electorate will be asked to decide whether or not to change
our current first past the post
voting system to the alternative vote system (AV).
The Liberal Democrat and
Conservative elements of the
coalition government have
been campaigning for and
against respectively.
Leeds City Council’s website
explained that when electing
an MP in a by-election or
general election, the first past
the post system sees the candidate who receives the most
votes win the seat.
This does not have to be a
