How Diets Go Wrong
When we realize we weigh more than we would like we are inclined to diet and eat less food.
We
start skipping meals or eating lower portions.
The truth? Eating less actually makes it more
difficult to lose weight.
The body evolved years ago at a time where there was no such thing as diets.
During this period,
people would starve and the ones that could deal with a temporary lack of food would survive.
Our body has since evolved and is now able to survive with low intakes of food.
Research has shown that thin people and overweight people typically ingest the same amount of
calories.
The difference however; comes from fat intake.
Thin people typically consume less fat
and more complex carbohydrates.
Americans actually take in fewer calories than they did at the beginning of the century.
So why
are Americans overweight? Because they have become dormant and fat intake has changed
dramatically.
People who diet without exercise typically gain weight over time.
