Paige kept his approach to pitching simple.
“Keep the ball away from the bat,”he said.
While it is difficult to challenge this philosophy, it’s also much easier said than done.
In today’s game, pitchers utilize a variety of
different pitches to keep their hitters off balance.
Each pitch has a different movement, a
different velocity and a different intention.
The Zionsville pitching staff took time away
from practice Monday to show off a few of the
more popular pitches.
Fastball
Zionsville senior Matt Miller uses a variety
of pitches on the mound.
However, when he’s in a difficult situation,
he relies on the good-old-fashioned heat.
“If I am behind in the count, I’m comfortable with my other pitches,”Miller said.
“But
usually in the past, I have stuck with my
fastball.
”
Miller has two different fastballs — the
two-seam and four-seam fastball.
