China’s Second Artillery Corps possesses ballistic missiles of short range, medium range, intermediate range and intercontinental range and also cruise missiles. While Beijing’s short, medium and intermediate range ballistic missiles are a deterrent against Russia, India, Japan, Taiwan, and US forward bases in the Asia Pacific region, these missiles are restricted by range to reach targets in the United States. Therefore, China’s ICBM capabilities form the main deterrent against United States. Credibility of any missile system is ensured only through routine testfirings.
