Tim Fate really goes the extra mile for the Sisters of Mercy. In fact, he drives an hour each day from his home in Michigan to St. Bernardine Home in Fremont, Ohio, where he works as maintenance manager. Along the way, Tim often stops to pick up supplies from one of the Mercy hospitals or dough- nuts for the sisters from a favorite bakery. Part of his job this time of year is making sure others can get into and out of the retirement convent’s driveways and parking lots when snow falls. “We’re all prepared for winter—we have the snow- plow all ready to go,” he says, despite unusually mild weather so far. “The last two years we were salting the driveways and parking lots about every day.” Also in anticipation of colder weather, Tim recently oversaw the installation of a new boiler. “I think that’s going to save us a bunch of money on heat with all this new tech- nology,” he says. “It probably will pay for itself in three or four years.” With four full-time staff members, Tim supervises m
