Mercy Challenge Offers Reflection, Service to Others
Amy Streit of Oaklawn, Illinois, said Mercy Challenge
helped her to see the Sisters of Mercy as close-knit and
focused on their service to God and ministry.
“This has been wonderful,” said Amy, one of five
participants in Mercy Challenge held May 22-29 in Buffalo
and Erie, part of the NyPPaW community.
The annual
event is sponsored by the Institute.
“You gain more insight going into an area that you are not
familiar with and work with people who are struggling,”
said Amy, who is thinking of volunteering after she
completes her degree in human services from St.
Mary’s University, Winona, Minnesota, in two years.
While in Buffalo, participants heard the stories of refugees at VIVE, Inc.
, and prepared and served meals to the
poor at the St.
Vincent de Paul Dining Room.
They toured Mercy ministries in Erie and spent a day working
with clients at the Mercy Center for Women, which provides trans
