Institute president leads Northeast Community in Advent days of
prayer
Sister Pat McDermott, president of the Institute of the Sisters
of Mercy of the Americas, ushered in the season of Advent and
led Northeast sisters, associates, and companions in two days of
prayer, held in Albany and in Providence on December 8 and 9,
respectively.
Approximately 80 people attended the day of prayer
in Albany, held at the motherhouse, and 130 people attended the
Providence day of prayer, held at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet.
Over
200 sisters and associates were also able to view the Albany day of
prayer via live internet connection.
In the morning session of each day, Pat gave a reflection on two
readings—the first reading was from the prophet Baruch (5:19) and the second reading was from the Gospel of Luke (3:1-6)
where the word of God comes to John the Baptist.
In her reflection, Pat suggested that the framework that emerges
