Consider Carbon Fasting During Lent
During Lent our reflections turn to the three traditional practices of prayer, fasting and
almsgiving.
When the scripture writers described fasting, they never envisioned carbon fasting
actions.
In 2010, however, given our awareness of reducing our production of climate change
pollution and our commitment to Earth, you are invited to participate in the Lenten Carbon Fast.
A Lenten Carbon Fast Calendar produced by the Archdiocese of Washington Environmental
Outreach Committee lists 40 carbon fasting actions everyone can consider as a part of your Lenten preparation
for the Easter season.
Each of these actions will reduce our production of climate change pollution and help to
preserve God’s great gift of Creation.
