Worldwide grid projects have contributed to the development of the grid.
They have purchased or installed equipment.
During these projects, numerous
dedicated networks and clusters have been set up, which are currently serving
as the basic resources for grid research.
During the last decade, grid computing has became a very dynamic field, and many scientific computational fields
are now looking for solutions toward grid computing.
High energy physics,
astronomy, earth observation, and biology problems are now common grid applications.
In addition to science and engineering applications, e-business and
computational finance have also increasingly appeared as grid applications.
These applications have put forward domain-specific requirements, such as
massive data processing, multisite geographically distributed databases, high
performance computing and high throughput computing.
