My nephew spent last weekend with
us.
He is only just over a year older
than my son, Mike.
Whenever he
visits I notice my son (pictured at
right) makes more requests of me;

My nephew spent last weekend with
us.
He is only just over a year older
than my son, Mike.
Whenever he
visits I notice my son (pictured at
right) makes more requests of me;
“daddy will you buy this new video
game for me, daddy can Marques
take my bicycle home, daddy will
you take us to the arcade?” I know
it is my nephew seeking to manipulate my son (and yes children can
manipulate).
Do I become angry? No.
My
nephew lost his father to cancer a
few years ago and my sister is not
the aggressive type when it comes
to imparting life lessons to children.
I
believe he may see my son as having more advantages in life, not the
least of which is having a father
around all of the time.
So how do I
address it?
I remind my nephew that he is loved
and incredibly important to all of us.
I remind him that what is ours is his.
I
teach him that he can approach his
uncle about anything and does not
have to do so through my son,
which I know is a part of his already
somewhat entrenched, sneaky ap
