Recent technological revolutions have brought about many changes in society, some more positive than others.
Perhaps one
of the most negative consequences of new technology is the way in which it has increased children s exposure to different kinds of
violence.
While research indicates that violence in video games may in fact be more harmful, television violence usually receives the
most ferocious criticism.
But unthinking rejection of television as the source of all society s problems is no more helpful than the
arguments of those who defend it tooth and nail.
Television is part of our culture and can play a constructive role in promoting positive
values, though it is clear that some things need to change before this potential can be fully realized.
