When I first heard the term autosuggestion, it was through listening to
Napoleon Hill’s Law of Success.
Autosuggestion is basically telling the
unconscious mind something so that it many believe the suggestion.
Hill stated in Napoleon Hill’s Golden Rules the Lost Writings that he
used autosuggestion to build character.
How Hill used autosuggestion was to find people who had
characteristics that he wanted to possess or make his own.
Just before
going to sleep, Hill would imagine being at a large council table with the
people, he wanted to emulate.
The people that Hill placed at this
imaginary table were Lincoln, Emerson, Socrates, Aristotle, Napoleon
Bonaparte, Jefferson, Elbert Hubbard, the man from Galilee, and Henry
Ward Beecher.
Each person that sat at this imaginary table had a certain
characteristic that Hill wanted to posses.
