In 1905, Ty Cobb, nicknamed the “Georgia Peach” joined the Tigers to become one of the greatest
baseball players of all time.
Cobb led the Tigers to be American League champions in 1907, 1908, and
1909, however they lost all three World Series’ during that span.
Ty Cobb played for the Tigers until
1920, and then became a manager for his last six years in Detroit.
In 1935, the Detroit Tigers won their first World Series, defeating the Chicago Cubs in six games.
Catcher as well as manager Mickey Cochrane led the team with the help 1935 American League MVP,
Hank Greenberg.
In 1940, the Tigers won the American League Championship, but lost the World Series
to the Cincinnati Reds.
They returned to World Series in 1945 and defeated the Chicago Cubs for the
