This paper is a contribution to a collective approach of the question of the uses
of the car as a place for “ cocooning-or necking-or flirting”.
It involves questions
related to the history of technology and questions belonging to anthropology.
The point is to try to understand how one should consider the fact that, if the
automobile has been designed as a means of transportation, it is also a place
where one can do many other things such as having conversations, flirting, and
even making love.
The car can become a very intimate place where two people –
or more – are in some manner trapped together.
It is also a place where a pair
can be or feel hidden from the world.
In some societies it has been spotted as the
only place a young or illegitimate pair could meet and enjoy some privacy.
