The MCPS Reading English Language Arts Standards grades 9-12 begins with this message: “The June
2004 revision of the MCPS Reading English Language Arts Content Standards for Grades 9-12 aligns with the
content standards and indicators on the Voluntary State Curriculum (VSC) developed by the Maryland State
Department of Education.
The revised MCPS document reflects the commitment of the Department of
Curriculum and Instruction (DCI) to provide students, teachers, and administrators with clear standards and
curricular documents for preparing students for post secondary education.
