Racing Yachts Against Rabies!
What do racing yachts and the rabies virus have in common? In June 2010, a
specialist in viral diseases will be raising money to help fight rabies while
indulging his passion for yachts and boats, sailing a gruelling 2,000 miles in the
Shetland two-handed round Britain and Ireland yacht race.
Racing yachts are, however, only one of many ways to raise money to combat the
rabies virus, a horrific disease which still kills thousands in the developing world.
For the Alliance for Rabies Control, a dynamic global charity, education in at-risk
communities about the importance of a rabies shot for pets is the key to reducing
the incidence of the disease.
Each year, thousands of people across the globe take part in events around World
Rabies Day (September 28th
) to raise money and help get the message out to
thousands of vulnerable people to:
• Take their pets for a regular rabies shot
• Seek treatment immediately if bitten
