Abstract: Concentrations of mercury in edible portion of some commonly consumed fresh water fish (14
varieties) namely, Amblypharyngodon mola, Orechromis niloticus niloticus, Orechromis mossambicus,
Channa guchua, Barbonymus gonionotus, Nangra nangra, Tor putitora, Megarasbora elanga, Chanda
mama, Clarias gariepinus, Colisa fasciata, Labeo gonius, Silonia silonia and Chagunius chagunio were
determined by radiochemical neutron activation analysis (RNAA).
The results were found to range from
( 0.
20-0.
91) µg g-1
on dry weight, where six species had mercury concentration, ( 0.
20 -0.
32) µg g-1
