country participates in most aspects of the industry including
crewing and serving as an embarkation market but with the
notable exception of shipbuilding.
However, with the large
number of headquarters facilities of the European cruise lines
located in the UK, together with the administrative offices of
the North American lines operating in Europe, employee compensation and cruise line purchases accounted for 80% of the
industry’s direct economic impact in the UK.
