Germany participates in all aspects of the industry from shipbuilding to crewing, to serving as an embarkation market.
However, shipbuilding makes the largest contribution to the
cruise industry’s economic impact in Germany, having ac-counted for just over 50% of the industry’s direct economic impact
in 2008.
Furthermore, Germany is the second largest source
market for cruise passengers in Europe behind the UK with an
estimated 907,000 residents of Germany having pur-chased
cruises in 2008.
