This was a banner year for tourism in Franklin
County.
Highlighting the year‘s accomplishments
were three major national professional ESPN/
BASSMASTER tournaments hosted at Smith Mountain Lake.
The high point was the County‘s first
ever nationally televised sporting event, the 2007
Blue Ridge Brawl BassMasters Elite tournament
featured on ESPN2 in June.
These fishing tournaments brought over 15,000 spectators to our community and generated well over

0 million in new visitor spending for the region.
Tourism continues to grow
in the County as the Smith Mountain Lake Visitor Center, Booker T.
Washington National Monument, and the Blue Ridge Institute all reported increases in
visitor attendance.
Initiatives such as The Crooked Road, the Wilderness Trail,
‗Round the Mountain‘ and the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail will continue
to open new doors for tourism marketing in the upcoming year.
