The Greenlee School of Journalism
and Communication will host its seventh
annual First Amendment Day celebration on
Thursday, April 16, 2009.
“We are really looking forward to this event,”
said Assistant Professor David Bulla, co-chair
of the First Amendment Day Committee.
“We
will have a day full of activities.
”
To celebrate the importance of the
constitutional freedoms enshrined in the
First Amendment, students, staff, faculty
and community members are invited to
participate in a Freedom March and a “Feast
on the First,” which will include food, soapbox
debates, readings, exhibits and music.

’09 T-shirts will be sold at the Feast.
Additionally, students from Davenport
Central High School will perform Tinker, a
rock opera.
This year is the 40th anniversary
of the Supreme Court’s Tinker v.
Des Moines
School District case (which protected students’
free-expression rights).
