Recently I consulted a
professional I had never met.
We
had communicated by email as to
the time and place we would meet.
I also sent ahead the information
we would discuss.
Such a meeting
b e t w e e n
two persons
unknown to
one another
could have
p r o d u c e d
an anxious
e n c o u n t e r .
But because
someone who
knew us both
recommended
her to me, I
felt much less
uncertain than
I otherwise
would have.
Many life
s i t u a t i o n s
create uncertainty: applying for a
job, asking someone for your first
date, or meeting your prospective
in-laws.
Having someone who
knows both you and the other
party to introduce you provides a
huge morale boost.
It’s a way to
gain confidence in the midst of an
anxious situation.
