Things are “off the ground” and “running” at the Upper River Parishes Station
located on Highway 75 in Plaquemine,
La.
The station is serving Ascension,
Upper Assumption and Iberville parishes
in the wake of Hurricanes Gustav and
Ike.
The station, housed in the Grand
River United Methodist Church, officially opened its doors on April 6.
“With bits
and pieces of equipment from the station
formerly in Abbeville, we have opened
the station frugally so that we could get
started with this important work,” said
Rev.
Amy Mercer, station manager.
The four-member staff attended a
FEMA Resource Fair on April 3, and
began a series of field days to meet the
public and get an idea of the needs facing
the community.
