Ingleside United Methodist Church in
Baton Rouge took Vacation Bible School
“on the road” this summer.
In fact, the outreach event, which
takes place in an underserved area of the
city, is in its second year.
It all started when church members Ev
Auster and Margaret Soskin were planning the 2008 Vacation Bible School for
Ingleside UMC.
Margaret, who has coordinated children’s programming for Ingleside for 30
years, was discouraged when she noticed
that only 12 children and five youth
helpers had signed up to participate in the
upcoming VBS.
“We were planning for 60 children,
but a month before VBS, we noticed that
our numbers were much lower than that,”
she said.
Soskin and Auster knew they had to
address the issue of low attendance.
