Africa University continues to stand
as a beacon of hope during Zimbabwe’s
medical, political and economic crisis.
At the end of 2008, unemployment in
Zimbabwe was at more than 80 percent
and food, water and fuel remained scarce.
“People are struggling,” said Bruce T.
Chakatsva, president of the students’ representative council at United Methodistrelated Africa University.
The United Methodist Committee on
Relief launched a targeted course of
action in response to food shortages and a
cholera epidemic.
An immediate food
distribution and additional support for
United Methodist hospitals will begin to
alleviate the suffering of many thousands
in the days ahead.
