As an auxiliary verb, it has no meaning. It is necessary only for the grammatical structure. As a main verb it has a meaning, but the meaning is rather general. It often expresses a general activity. Make is not an auxiliary verb. It is always a main verb (I made a cake yesterday. ). Its meaning is also rather general, but it often expresses the idea of construction or creation. **In this lesson we look at some guidelines that may help you . Do Do for general activity When we talk about a general activity but do not say what it is, we can use do: 1-I want to do something. 2-What are you doing this evening? 3-What can we do? 4-Do it now! UNI T 2 21 Jonathan Swift Jonathan Swift was born in 1667 in Dublin, Ireland, when that country belonged to England. His father, who died before Jonathan Swift was born, was Irish and his mother was English. Although he spent his early years in England, he returned to Ireland to go to school and university. He found work in England as a secretary to a retired diplomat. While he was working as a secretary Swift started to write, lie later had other jobs, working as a politician and a churchman, and he finally got an important job at St Patrick s Cathedral in Dublin. In 1726, Gulliver s Travels was published and became great success. Different people have different explanations for this. To some it was an imaginative children s story, to others it was a claver commentary on the politics of the day. Some people today see it as the first science fiction novel. In my opinion, the book succeeds because it has these different meanings. Jonathan Swift wrote

It is very comfortable working in a modern building with air conditioning. People come here from all over the world- most of them don t speak Arabic, so I use my English a lot. Since I started the job two years ago I have met important people from all over the world. A trade delegation from Europe arrived in Egypt two weeks ago, so last week I was reporting on that story almost every day. I even met le

" Presumably, this is because the plural "buses" looks like it ought to rhyme with the plural of "fuse," which is "fuses. " "Buses" is still listed as the preferable plural form. "Busses" is the plural, of course, for "buss," a seldom used word for "kiss. " There are several nouns that have irregular plural forms. Plurals formed in this way are sometimes called mutated (or mutating) plurals. • more than one child = children • more than one woman = wome
