dashed the hopes of some other family. Brody’s chance at life came at the cost of someone else’s death. Our opportunity for a spiritual heart transplant, for salvation from sin, for a better life here and now, and eternal life hereafter, also comes at the cost of a life. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Notice, Christ died for us not “when we were worthy,” or “when we obeyed God’s law perfectly,” or even “when we became aware of our need,” but “while we were still sinners. ” Brody’s heart was only going to get worse without a transplant. His desperate need made him eligible. And he had to depend on someone, somewhere, making a gift of a healthy heart. No hearts were available for purchase, and if they were, he and his family could not afford one. Once again, the same holds true for salvation: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Roma

God declares, “Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? . . . I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” says the Lord God. “Therefore turn and live!” (Ez. 18:23, 32) When the world ends and the wicked are destroyed, the Lord is simply giving them what they want. Proverbs 8:36 puts it this way. “. . . he who sins against Me (God) wrongs his own soul; all those who hate Me love death. ” In order to be prepared for the end of the world and the return of Christ we must first understand our true condition. The Bible teaches that the root of all sin is selfishness. Most people think that they are good, but a sincere look into God’s word reveals the opposite. Even our acts of kindness can be done through selfish motives. What we need is first; Christ’s forgiveness and second; a

Imagine if a doctor told you to take a vacation, and then revealed that he had a vacation designed to meet your deepest needs. That’s what the Sabbath is. Jesus himself said, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. ” That means that the Sabbath is not some arbitrary hoop for us to jump through—we have enough of those the other six days— but rather it is a rest tailored to meet our needs. But why not Sunday, or Tuesday? Why Saturday? Remember that the creation story in Genesis told us that “God blessed the seventh day and made it holy?” What does it mean to “make something holy?” When Moses stood before the burning bush, he stood on holy ground. What made it holy? The presence of God. God makes the Sabbath holy by being present on that day in some special way. “Wait a minute,” you may say. “Isn’t God present on every day?” And

Step 6: Air Air is obviously crucial; after all, we can live only a few minutes without breathing. But the quality of the air we breathe is also important. Air pollution can cause illness and death if pollutants become concentrated for several days or weeks—especially for the very young and the very old or for those suffering from congestive heart failure or chronic lung diseases. Probably the most damaging air pollution comes from smoking. The harmful effects of smoking have become so well documented that there is no longer any question that it is a killer. To help maintain good health, breathe deeply of pure, clean air. Step 7: Rest Studies continue to show that adults need eight hours of good sleep per night to really function effectively. We may tell ourselves that we can get by on less, but sleep deprivation is a serious problem in today’s fast-paced society. Besides getting enough sleep, you need to include recreation in your life. Based on the stellar popularity of Twilight, his strategy has become a satanic success. Blood Transfusion Twilight’s appeal is twofold. First, it’s a captivating tale about vampires and werewolves; and second, it’s a heart-stirring love story about Edward and Bella. In Robert Coleman’s book, Written in Blood, a young boy named Johnny conquered a deadly disease. Unfortunately, his little sister Mary caught it, and was nearing death. “She needs a blood transfusion or she’ll die,” the family doctor told the parents, “and Johnny’s blood is perfect because he has already overcome the disease. ” All eyes then turned to the lad. “Will you give your blood?” his parents asked tearfully. Johnny hesitated. His lower lip trembled. “Sure,” he finally whispered, “She’s my sister. ” Then they raced to the hospital.

Just a few verses later, hard on the heels of the economic decree in Revelation 13, comes an appeal to worship the God of the universe. In quick succession, three angels make loud announcements to the citizens of planet Earth. The first angel of Revelation 14 distinctly calls people to worship God. “Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth—to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people—saying with a loud voice, ‘Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water’ ” (Revelation 14:6, 7, NKJV). This appeal is immediately followed by a warning that those who ignore this invitation will suffer destruction with the false earthly power. “ ‘If anyone worships the beast and his image . . . he hims

Hannah took her son Samuel to the temple and was to “remain there forever” (1 Samuel 1:22), though he, too, eventually died. (Some Bible versions translate olam as “always” in this passage, and not as “forever. ”) Even Jonah said that he was in the belly of the whale “for ever” (Jonah 2:6), yet it was only for three days. Jesus warned that there would be a hell-fire “that shall never be quenched” (Mark 9:45). But centuries earlier, warning about the fate of Jerusalem, Jeremiah predicted that the cities of Jerusalem would be burned in a fire that “shall not be quenched” (Jeremiah 17:27). The Babylonians came and burned Jerusalem, just as predicted, yet the fires—the fires that were not to be “quenched”—had, in fact, burned out long ago. How could that be? Because with the warning about Jerusalem, as with Jesus’ warning about hell, the fires would not be quenc

5 a day representing a year, for a total of 483 years. The Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem and carried most of its citizens captive to Babylon. Later, three Persian kings issued decrees permitting the Jews to return to their homeland. The decree that comes closest to meeting the requirements of Daniel’s prophecy was issued by Artaxerxes in 457 b. c. Simple mathematics shows that Daniel’s 483 years ended in a. d. 27. Jesus was anointed for His ministry at the time of His baptism. In his Gospel, Luke gives us detailed chronological information that indicates that Jesus was baptized in a. d. 27. 4 So, Daniel predicted the very year that Jesus would begin His ministry! This is powerful evidence that we can trust the Bible as a message from God, not just from human beings. Personal experience However, impressive as archaeology and prophecy are in confirming the trustworthiness of the Bible, the most important evidence is the difference the Bible has

GLOW phone - (559) 347-3152 P. O. Box 770 Clovis, CA 93613 6 Why is diet important? And why is God so concerned about our health? Because the human body is a “temple. ” That’s right; it is a sacred place where God establishes His dwelling. The individual, and not just the church, is a temple for the Holy Spirit. The apostle Paul offered this reminder: “Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:19, 20). How do we apply these biblical principles to our nutritional choices? Here are a few simple rules: 1. As far as possible, eat foods in their natural form. Fried, sautéed, and even roasted foods add harmful ingredients that undermine good health. 2. Make fresh fruits and vegetables the main stay of your diet. 3. If you’re accustomed to eat

Unfortunately, the religious people of Jesus’ time had surrounded the Sabbath with so many rules and regulations—including the strange rule that it was wrong to heal people on the Sabbath—that the day had become a burden. That’s why Jesus went out of His way to heal people on the Sabbath. He wanted to show that the Sabbath must be a happy day. The Bible says we must call the Sabbath a delight,6 and Jesus modeled that for us. The Sabbath and Sunday You are aware, of course, that most Christians observe Sunday as the Sabbath rather than Saturday, which is the Sabbath of the Bible. If you ask them why, many people will tell you that Jesus or the apostles changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday.

He was acquainted with Babylon since he lived there, and he may have known of Medo-Persia at the time he wrote this prophecy—although that power didn’t overthrow Babylon until years later. But humanly speaking, there’s no way Daniel could have predicted the rise and fall of Greece and Rome or the breakup of the Roman Empire.
