I suppose we all have to deal with that; it simply is the world we live in. Might be a financial miscalculation, a delicate family matter, a business plan not proceeding according to plan or even an unwarranted criticism. None of us are made of steel though I take delight in my ability to quickly move beyond the trivial. I met with laughter this week the report of a business associate of mine receiving a call from someone wanting to badmouth me and/or my work and I never met this person. Week of May 1st, 2013 Roseberry Committed to Community Outreach Roseberry Adult Day Health Services, serving Western Wayne and Southern Oakland Counties of Michigan wants people to know how open our doors are. We do not have to schedule it, we make everyday available to families, long-term care professionals and others who need to explore the advantages of adult day services. This is not a mere babysitting initiative but a clinically competent program that combines supervision, personal care assistance, nursing and physician intervention with rehabilitative services. Because quality programs of this type tend to fill fast and end up with waiting lists, many in assisted living seek to enroll residents who could benefit from the diversity of routines and an extra hand for personal care. Care is available in tons of venues. Most of these care providing organizations are also strong business entities with departments and personnel in place for financial control, internal audit, human resources and marketing…. with maybe one exception. In many states of the union these past 40 years, a new entrepreneur was developed. As America sought to de-stigmatize mental health we moved many of the mentally ill and those with developmental

Is There Merit to these Complaints? roviders of care from assisted living to adult day care have been barking a bit. Their complaints center around their expectations of their associations, either on the state or national level. The cries appear to be louder from small-scale assisted living providers and some states seem to be making louder noise than others. Ok so what are these complaints about? For the most part providers are complaining they are not receiving the support they need as they battle increasing cuts to their reimbursements while mental health agencies and other public bodies demand more by way of services. From the same crowd comes complaints that when they are c

Since 1973 this state has enjoyed the most comprehensive, and in the opinion of some overly generous, auto-no fault provisions in the country. This is due to the fact that an injured party’s reasonable and necessary care is paid for life after a catastrophic auto collision in Michigan. Everyone with a vehicle pays up to $170. 00+ per year, per vehicle in order for the quasi-public Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association to finance the cost of care from hospitalization to assisted living to nursing

So I speak not from theory but experience. I do find myself having to remind entrepreneurs in care not to expect overnight results but there is one key ingredient that has worked well for me. That has been offering the free day of service. Of course it comes with restrictions, generally only allowing one day per week or so and maybe then only twice per month. Yet it has real advantages especially for programs that serve primarily seniors or assisted livi

Sometimes when a start-up business comes along a family, and in some cases a case manager may decide not to make use of or recommend it due to its newness. Long-term care experts are reflecting upon the story told by a lady named Evelyn which could change the thinking of some: “I knew my mom had to go into assisted living. On occasion, without even realizing it, a supervisor may demean through usage of words or otherwise indignify an employee or multiple employees and this will come back to hurt us in many ways. Unfortunately in this business some family members of our residents may be quite detached from the person you are providing residential care for, sometimes, albeit shameful its due to the stigma of mental illness. So circumstances are not favorable to the development of customer service skills. Adult day care is often different. Payments are comi
