Mary Caldarella 3/30/17 Mylan EpiPen Controversy Mylan, the generic and brand-name medical company who supplies EpiPens to patients with severe allergies, has been facing outrage recently after a controversy that has arisen with their soaring prices. The controversy sparked when the price for a two- pak of the EpiPen went from costing an averaged $100 in 2010 to over $600 this year. Mylan has tried to downplay the backlash by offering discount coupons and assuring families that insurance will cover most of the cost. Families were not relieved but instead furious that it took country-wide outrage for Mylan to offer discounts for their product. “Nobody is buying this PR move anymore,” said Congressman Elijah Cummings. Mylan has been defensive about the controversy, stating that they have spent hundreds of millions of dollars improving their products.
