LEIPZIG INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS
24 to 29 November 2014
Leipzig, nicknamed "Little Paris" is a town in north-western
land of Saxony.
With more than 525,000 inhabitants, is the second city of
Saxony, Dresden behind.
Located 145 km south of Berlin, it is part of the former East
Germany and has lived inside the wall came down in 1989 (it
has also actively participated in the event, causing many
events in this period).
With raised plain, its second highest point (Fockeberg) is an
artificial mountain about 150 meters high, created by the
accumulation of rubble from buildings destroyed by Allied
bombing during the Second World War.
The landscape south of Leipzig is marked by numerous mining
sites that at the time contributed to the richness of the city.
These open pits have over time been transformed into natural
tanks, which filled with water have become lakes, for many
leisure facilities.
4 of these lakes are now designed to protect the city from
possible flooding.
